The journey
Columbus came on the idea of a faster route, because he thought the Atlantic Ocean wasn't very large. The map of Ptolemaeus is partionally guillty for this mistake. Asia stood much larger on the map than is really was. So when Columbus on the 3th of August took off with three ships en 90 crewmembers, he didn't knew the journey was going to end different from what he had in mind.

After 36 days of sailing they finally saw land. But instead of the Islands in front of the coast of China, they saw the Carribean. When Columbus discovered this, he was dissapointed because he couldn't find the spices- the mission of his journey.

There was one thing he did find: Natives. They were very kind to him and they told about a kingdom with lots of gold in the south. So Colombus went to the south, but the golf he found was very less: the journey had failed.
