Natives
The original population of the Amazon are the Natives. For
the Natives the Amazon is their mother, their soul, their
everything. For centuries they had a undefined knowlegde
about the nature and the area. Knowledge that nowadays still
hasn't been discoverded in our culture.
The natives supply themselves with fishing, hunting and
collecting.
The latest rates have shown that there are about 600.000
natives left in the Area. Before the Spanish Conquista there
where approximately millions of Natives.
About the year 1900 we learned that there were about 260
different groups with natives. 150 of them survived the
colonisation. Every single group of the natives speaks their
own langauge or with their own dialect, so they can hardly
understand eachother. Language became important when the
first whites arrives in the area. The languages are seperates
into four groups: Tupí Guarani, Jê, Karib and
Arawak.
